How does Invisalign® treatment work?

When you come for your first consultation at Aberdeen Orthodontics, we will use our 3D iTero Scanner to make an accurate digital model of your smile. Through this model, we can plan your custom treatment and even show you what your new smile will look like!

Upon starting treatment, you will be given a set of Invisalign clear aligners tailored to your exact smile. Instead of coming in for adjustments, you will switch to a new set of aligners every couple weeks to gradually move your teeth into alignment. That means less time taken up with dentist appointments and more time to enjoy smiling with confidence again.

Because of its precise fit, Invisalign treatment makes for a comfortable and effective treatment option. Many of our patients complete Invisalign treatment in just 12 to 14 months.

Am I suitable for Invisalign treatment?

Suitability for Invisalign treatment will depend on your individual needs. During your initial assessment at Aberdeen Orthodontics we will be able to advise whether aligner treatment is a suitable solution for you, or whether an alternative treatment would be more beneficial.

How often must I see my orthodontists during Invisalign treatment?

Typically, if you're an adult Invisalign patient you'll need to pop in to see us around once every six weeks. Having the close eye of an experienced orthodontist will ensure everything is moving in the right direction. We will also keep track of the progress of your treatment remotely between appointments, with the Dental Monitoring app.

What foods can I eat whilst wearing Invisalign clear aligners?

One of the things that makes Invisalign such a popular option for straightening teeth, is that it has minimal impact the treatment has on your lifestyle. You can eat all of your favourite foods while going through your smile journey, just as long as you remove the aligners before tucking in. You also need to be on top of your dental hygiene. After eating, give your teeth a brush and a floss before popping your Invisalign aligners back in.

What’s the best way to clean my Invisalign aligners?

Looking after your Invisalign aligners is easy to incorporate into your everyday oral hygiene routine. Simply use a spare toothbrush and toothpaste with a little lukewarm water.

Will wearing Invisalign aligners affect my speech?

You may notice a slight change in your speech for a few days, until you're used to wearing the aligners. But for the most part, your speech shouldn’t be affected.

How do I fix a broken Invisalign aligner?

If your aligner breaks, don't panic! Just call us to let your dentist know what's happened and we can re-order a new set of aligners for you. That being said, Invisalign aligners are very durable, so you are unlikely to find yourself in this predicament.
